What is YippieMove?

YippieMove is email transfers made easy.

There are many situations in life where you need to leave an email account behind. Maybe you graduated from your university and they'll close your university account, or you simply decided to switch email provider. Regardless of what your reason is you don't want to lose all those emails. With YippieMove you don't have to. YippieMove will transfer your emails from their old account to a new one.

Here are some examples of situations where YippieMove comes in handy:

YippieMove can tackle all of the above.

Custom Migration

YippieMove also offers custom email migration. With our custom migration, we can help you migrate your email between virtually any two email servers (assuming both servers support IMAP). Since this is a custom job, we do not offer this service for single email accounts. For information about our custom migrations contact our sales team. We also offer volume-discounts on custom migration jobs.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where did some of my emails go? Gmail only displays X messages, while my source account displays Y messages.

Possibility 1: The most common reason for this is the way Gmail counts messages. Instead of using a per-message count, Gmail groups and counts messages as conversations. Hence, even though you have 314 successfully transfered messages, Gmail might group them into 200 conversations. The easiest way to see how many messages were transferred is to go to the Status page. If you expand the details (by clicking on the Id-link) you will see how many messages were transferred for each folder.

Possibility 2: You already have the messages in some other folder in your Gmail account. This can happen if you've used our service before, or manually copied the message to the destination prior to using YippieMove. Don't forget to check your Trash folder.

All messages transfered to your Gmail will be located under 'Labels' on the left hand side. If you selected to transfer 'INBOX' from your AOL account, you will find a label named 'aol/INBOX'. If you click on that label, all transferred messages will appear there. For more details about Labels, see Gmail's help about Labels.

One of the folders I selected to transfer never showed up in Gmail.

Possibility 1: We're still working on your account. To see if this is the case, visit our Status page. If your order is not shown as 'Finished' you'll need to wait a little longer.

Possibility 2: The folder was empty. If the folder was empty, we skipped it since there's nothing to move.

Possibility 3: We've experienced some problems while transferring your emails. If you haven't received your messages and folders within 48 hours, please contact us for a possible refund.

How is YippieMove different from just 'Forwarding' my emails?

Using YippieMove is an improvement to 'Forwarding' in several ways.

Does YippieMove offer any volume discount if I migrate more than one account?

We offer volume discounts for migrations that include more than five email accounts. For more information about our volume discounts, please contact our sales team.

How safe is YippieMove?

We take security very seriously. When you enter your account credentials into YippieMove all communication is encrypted with SSL, the same encryption most banks use to secure online banking.

As you can read in our Privacy Policy, we're also very conservative about whom we share your information with.

Can I use YippieMove to transfer my email account to a Google Apps-account?

Yes you can. This is how:

I want to use YippieMove to migrate my UC San Diego-account, but it's not listed.

The reason why we don't list UCSD is that different departments use different settings. Follow the simple steps below to get your UCSD account up running with YippieMove.

For more detailed instructions, please read the article Using YippieMove with a UC San Diego Account on our development blog.

Can I use YippieMove to migrate my Microsoft Exchange email account?

It depends. If the Exchange server where your email account resides supports IMAP, then the answer is yes. If it doesn't, you can ask your IT administrator to enable it.

The easiest way to find out if the Exchange server has IMAP enabled is to try it.

If you get to Step 2 without seeing an error message, you will be able to use YippieMove to migrate your email. If you do see an error message you might not be out of luck just yet. Try the above steps again, but this time with the "SSL" checkbox selected. If this fails too, IMAP is either disabled on your Exchange server, or your username and password is wrong.

Note that YippieMove only transfers email. Other tools will be needed to transfer your Exchange contacts and calendar.

How do I prepare my SAFe-mail to work with YippieMove?

Similarly to Gmail, SAFe-mail does not have IMAP enabled by default. In order for YippieMove to access the account, we need to enable IMAP. To do so, follow these simple steps.

  1. Log into your SAFemail account.
  2. Click 'Preferences.'
  3. Click Preferences
  4. Select 'IMAP/POP' in the left menu.
  5. Select IMAP/POP
  6. Select 'Account access' in the center menu.
  7. Account access
  8. Check the 'IMAP'-checkbox and click 'save.'
  9. Enable IMAP

That's it. Your SAFe-mail account is now ready to be transferred by YippieMove.

I've used YippieMove to transfer all my emails, and it worked out great, but how can I transfer my contacts?

Transferring your contacts is pretty straight forward (if your provider supports contacts export). We have compiled a list of instructions for some of the providers we support. As you can see, many of the instructions are quite similar so even if your provider is not listed the instructions might still be useful.

Depending on how you're planning to import your contacts, the format you should use for the export differs. If you're planning to import your contacts in either Gmail / Google Apps or Microsoft Outlook, the "Outlook CSV format" is the most appropriate option. However, if you're planning to import your contacts into a desktop application like Apple Address Book or Mozilla Thunderbird, vCards might be a better option. If you're unsure about what format to use consult the documentation for the service or application.
